Independent science journalism on temperate and boreal forests.
This site publishes independent science journalism on boreal forest ecology, forest carbon, old-growth biodiversity, forest fire. Every article is written by a credentialed researcher and draws on peer-reviewed literature, primary scientific sources, and expert institutional data. Our mission is to make rigorous science accessible, accurate, and engaging for a global readership.
Dr. Henrik Larsson โ PhD Forest Ecology, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU)
Dr. Henrik Larsson is a forest ecologist specialising in boreal and temperate forest dynamics, forest carbon cycling, and the ecology of old-growth forest ecosystems. He completed his PhD at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Uppsala in 2010 and has conducted long-term research on Swedish, Finnish, and Siberian boreal forests. Dr. Larsson's research focuses on the response of forest ecosystems to climate change, the role of disturbance (fire, windthrow, insect outbreaks) in forest renewal, and the biodiversity value of deadwood and old-growth structures. He has collaborated with the European Forest Institute (EFI), WWF Sweden, and the Swedish EPA's Nature Conservation Programme. His work has been published in journals including Forest Ecology and Management, Global Change Biology, and Ecology Letters. Forest Pulse was established in 2023 to provide independent, scientifically rigorous journalism on the world's forests.

Every article published on this site is based on peer-reviewed scientific literature, data from recognised research institutions (IPCC, NOAA, IUCN, NASA, WWF, WCS, and others), and the author's own research experience. We do not publish opinion, speculation, or content that has not been verified against primary scientific sources.
When scientific findings are contested or uncertain, we represent that uncertainty clearly and cite the range of current expert opinion. Corrections to published articles are made promptly and transparently.
Our editorial focus is boreal forest ecology, forest carbon, old-growth biodiversity, forest fire. We publish in-depth science articles, research summaries, and expert explainers aimed at readers with a genuine interest in science โ from students and educators to researchers and conservation professionals.
